LES BUBB
Comedy meets Mime
Les Bubb’s unique style makes him difficult to pigeonhole… He’s been described as a talking mime; an actor; a dancer; an acrobat and a comedian. TIME-OUT suggests “he’s arguably the best, probably the most imaginative, and certainly the most accessible clown you’ll find treading – and hitting – the boards”.
His highly distinctive brand of visual humour succeeded in breaking barriers of language, and his solo-shows received international acclaim.
Les Bubb was born in Liverpool. Years of academic hyperactivity ended with the discovery of Liverpool Children’s Theatre. He then joined the Everyman Youth Theatre; the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and the Welsh College of Music & Drama.
His first taste of physical comedy was aroused in 1982 by Desmond Jones who suggested him to go Paris to explore his body further!
On an Arts Council bursary, he crossed the Channel to study with the formidable Etienne Decroux and the more flamboyant Philippe Gaulier. He practised his craft on the streets of Paris and Europe, and discovered he could use his body and make people laugh in the process.
Nowadays Les Bubb is a popular performer in TV, Cabaret & Theatre. He has toured extensively both in England and abroad. He has supported Lenny Henry; Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry; and Chas’n’ Dave.
